1. Who can participate?

  •     YADIP is for enrolled students (B.A., M.A. & PHD) for all enrolled students regardless of their faculty & academic orientation.


2. What teaching formats are offered?

  • YADIP is a combination of classroom (on-site) and e-learning (online)
  • Regular training: Continuous training by G-I Staff.
  • Summer Academy: Training by international experts * on site at the G-I.

4. What qualifications are obtained in YADIP?

  • YADIP participants acquire either (a) a SICA degree (Solution Indicative Conflict Analyst) or (b) a CTS-degree (Conflict Transformation Specialist) at the Galtung-Institut for Peace Theory and Peace Practice. For international professions, this G-I certificate is an excellent additional qualification that complements respective degrees student are currently acquiring.
  • YADIP participants – upon notification – can obtain internship certificates.

6. Where does the onsite dimension of YADIP take place?

  • YADIP courses are designed for students from all over the world. Accordingly, YADIP is a customized combination of online distance learning courses and on-site courses. The onsite courses require compulsory attendance.
  • Regular on-site courses are held on the premises of the Galtung-Institut for Peace Theory and Peace Practice in Grenzach-Wyhlen/D & in Basel/CH. Extra courses can be conceived and implemented at foreign universities or in partnership with other institutions upon invitation.


7. What is the cost of YADIP?

  • The YADIP-Traineeship costs students a basic fee of €780 (Instead of the regular trining fee: €2800). Accomodation during the on-site courses costs an additional €250.
  • Analogous to the NMUN tradition, YADIP trainees may be encouraged to form fundraising groups, to fund their training. The G-I assists local YADIP groups (Uni Basel).


8. Duration and workload YADIP training?

  • YADIP is designed as a professional qualification & training. To increase the quality of the training, YADIP students may be encouraged to stay on for 6 months (about 10 hrs. Per week). Such a YADIP-term will allow enrolled students to focus on and experience ongoing G-I work & research. Participants submit individual or joint analysis (which can be combined with their current university tasks) and complete Team Missions. What to expect:
    i) Self-study
    ii) Online Sessions: Intranet-based collaboration
    iii) on-site seminar units: 3, if necessary, 5 weekend sessions
    iv) Team Missions: Research & Fundraising


9. After YADIP training: become a YADIP attaché?

  • YADIP participants can move on to become attachés of the G-I and will as such benefit from contacts to the international network of over 500 professional conflict specialists located in over 80 states. YADIP is intended to lead to internships outside of Europe i.e: Washington D.C. (USA), Pueblo (Mexico), Yaoundé (Cameroon), Accra (Ghana), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Kyoto (Japan) and many more.
  • Alumni Membership: YADIP Attachés become Galtung-Institut alumni after 2 years.
