Welcome to our community: How do you define PEACE?

I prefer to define peace using the negative/positive peace dichotomy. True peace, positive peace, being the absence of direct, cultural, and strucutral violence and the ability of society to work together toward a harmonious future.

How did you find this community?

Internship

Do you have any professional experience in the field of peace-research? peace-studies? peace-practice?

I am currently finishing my B.A. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. I have worked at the Jerusalem Fund’s Palestine Center, am a current intern for the Galtung Institut, and have presented research at many conferences, including IPRA 2014.

Are you at all familiar with concepts of Nonviolence and Conflict Transformation?

Yes.
I have studied the relationship between narrative and nonviolence, specifically strategic nonviolence a la Gene Sharp. I have also examined nonviolence from the perspective of an anti-apartheid activist at GMU.
Conflict transformation is one of the basic parts of the curriculum for my degree, so I have a basic familiarity with that concept as well.

What are your primary conceptual interests and concerns

Critical conflict resolution, nonviolnce, narrative, Palestine, Political Economy and CAR

USA, however I am currently in Buenos Aires and will be in Santiago, Chile in 2015

What is your main regional focus?

Latin America and Palestine
