Welcome to our community: How do you define PEACE?

Like all abstract concepts, it is difficult to define it. Most people usually find peace when nothing threatens their comfort or things to which they are attached! But, I’m a bit doubtful! For example, heavy rain or storm usually gives me peace! That’s why I think there’s no collective understanding about peace. Yet, I can tell it is strongly suggests a sort of “personal attachment” to things that we like and protect.

How did you find this community?

I saw Prof. Galtung about this masterclass on Twitter.

Do you have any professional experience in the field of peace-research? peace-studies? peace-practice?

I did my previous (unfinished) PhD in ELT (English Language Teaching) in Northern Cyprus, an island with a long history of conflict, that is host to war-affected people and refugees. Peace and conflict studies was one of our main research topics in that context that sadly attracted nobody except me! I did an empirical research on that topic, as well. My new PhD is not focused on this topic but I’m switching back to Peace studies as my most interesting research topic for post-doc or any other position that comes up.

Are you at all familiar with concepts of Nonviolence and Conflict Transformation?

I’ve read about them but I can’t tell that I deeply understand what they mean.

What are your primary conceptual interests and concerns

I want to learn about it very deeply. I'm interested in theories as much as in practice. My major interest is to find ways to institutionalise and incorporate peacebuilding pedagogies into higher education.

What is your main regional focus?

Integrating peace pedagogies in higher education-I'm open to different things

Languages

Persian (my mother tongue) and English (second language)

(Very basic French and Arabic)
