Prof. Johan Galtung’s visit in Nepal

The Asian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Transformation (ASPECT), Peace and Conflict Studies Center (PCSCenter (PCS Center), and Friends For Peace (FFP), in coordination with TRANSCEND International, have jointly invited Professor Dr. Johan Galtung for first “One-Week Peace Event”.

This is Prof.Galtung’s third visits in Nepal.
There has been fond memory of Dr. Galtung’s lectures, meetings, workshops, and interviews with civil society, political parties, government authorities, and international communities in May 2003 and October-November 2006 of his visits in Nepal.

His techniques on dialogue within the then concerned constitutional and unconstitutional parties have been most useful tools to sign Comprehensive Peace Accord (2006), after the civil war (1996-2006).

During his visit, he is going to meet members of civil society, political leaders, second rank and top leaders, and the President. In addition, there will be some lectures and a public conference, regarding new priorities for peace
and also role of politics at the actual stage of the peace process. The conference will try to give out answers to various challenges transitional Nepal is having such as The Constituent Assembly (CA) defunct on May 27, 2012 without a New Constitution in four years of its tenure and lack of consensus among political parties.

This visit could be a great opportunity to have an external and experienced stimulus regarding peace in Nepal, and way out to more compelling realities and future.
